Twin Piston Initial Training Overview

RTC’s Twin Piston Initial Training Course is designed for pilots transitioning into cabin class twin piston aircraft. Training is tailored to the specific aircraft model, pilot experience level, and insurance requirements to help pilots build proficiency and confidence in twin piston operations.

Typical Course Length: 2-3 Days

Our instructors work closely with each pilot to provide personalized, aircraft specific training focused on operational knowledge, systems understanding, and real world decision making. Training is available for the Cessna 340, 402, 404, 414, 421, and 421C.

Eligibility Requirements

Training Prerequisites

Hold a Private Pilot Certificate, Commercial Pilot Certificate, ATP Certificate, or ICAO-recognized pilot license

Hold an Instrument Rating or ATP Certificate with an airplane rating

Hold a Multi-Engine Land Rating

What the Twin Piston Initial Course Covers

Training may include:

  • General operating subjects, including ATC procedures, weather avoidance, emergency procedures, and applicable FAR Parts 61 and 91
  • Twin engine aircraft systems, including POH review, aircraft limitations, powerplant, fuel system, and related aircraft-specific systems
  • Flight simulation, including checklist use, takeoffs and landings, normal procedures, IFR flights and approaches, abnormal procedures, and emergency events
  • Training is designed to help pilots develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary for safe and proficient twin piston aircraft operations.
